Ka ʻUmeke Laulima Sign Upʻs Still Being Taken
Earn ʻApu Lanakila points for your advisory by signing up for one (or more) of the following jonbs:

(1)  Moving 2nd delivery of dirt in our new mala extension
  • 5000 points for 200 minutes of work by half an advisory (SUPERVISION BY ADVISOR and/or MR. CHOW REQUIRED!)
  • 5000 points for 100 minutes of work by an entire advisory (SUPERVISION BY ADVISOR and/or MR. CHOW REQUIRED!)
(2)  Keeping an area of the mala weed-free during the trimester
  • 1000 to 5000 points depending on the area to be weeded
(3)  Scrubbing the green algae off of sidewalks and downspout areas
  • 2000 points for concrete surrounding Building 1
  • 1500 points for concrete surrounding Building 2
  • 1000 points for concrete surrounding Building 11
(4)  Cleaning the downspouts that are near the tetherball and morning snack areas
  • 1000 points for clearing debris from the bottom of each downspout
  • 1000 points for straightening and unbending downspouts that have been damaged/dented (SUPERVISION BY ADVISOR and/or MR. CHOW REQUIRED!)
(5)  Clearing gravel from grassy areas and placing the gravel back in the contained areas that border our covered walkways
  • 1500 points for covered walkway from snack area to Laʻamea
  • 1500 points for covered walkway from bus ramp area to Haʻaeamahi
  • 1250 points for walkway from Bldg 11 to Laʻamea
  • 1000 points for walkway from Bldg 1 to Bldg 11
All jobs start on 3/9/16.  Students should see Mrs. Pacheco to sign up and then meet with Mr. Chow on 3/9/16 for instructions on how to get started.

Advisories that fail to follow-through will be charged with demerits for the same amount of points that would have been earned … so be sure that your advisory will follow through once you sign up for a job!

Trimester 3 brings a new way to  earnadvisory points …  in order to provide opportunities to mālama our beautiful campus, Mrs. Pacheco and Mr. Chow will be starting up our Ka ʻUmeke Laulima program again.  For students new to our Kula Waena this year, you can think of this as a virtual job board where advisories can volunteer to complete tasks here at school.  Some of the jobs that are available are as follows:

(1)  Moving dirt in our new mala extension

  • Leadership Class for Potential JV Football Players: All 8th graders who are interested in participating in JV football are invited to meet with Coach Dan Lyons every Friday in the faculty dining room at Haʻaeamahi during lunch. Students should get their plates and make their way over to the side room for their meeting. These meetings will be held each Friday and will go a long way to helping student athletes understand Coach Danʻs expectations.

Middle School Sports:
Boys Basketball: Practice on Tuesday and Friday in Laʻamea Gym from 3:30-5:30.
Golf: Practice on Tuesday and Thursday at Hilo Muni from 3:30-4:30
Cheerleading: Practice on Wednesday from 3:00-5:45 and Friday from 3:30-5:30 in Keaka Playcourt
Track: Practice on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 3:45 – 5:15 at Paiʻea Stadium

Upcoming Events:

  • Leadership Class for Potential JV Football Players: All 8th graders who are interested in participating in JV football are invited to meet with Coach Dan Lyons every Friday in the faculty dining room at Haʻaeamahi during lunch. Students should get their plates and make their way over to the side room for their meeting. These meetings will be held each Friday and will go a long way to helping student athletes understand Coach Danʻs expectations.

SPRING SPORTS BASELINE CONCUSSION TESTING
All those planning to participate in spring sports a current/valid Baseline Concussion Test is required. If you need to schedule a Baseline Concussion test please email the Athletic Trainers at [email protected] to schedule an appointment. Testing are done after-school on Wednesday’s by appointment only. Mahalo!

  • Pilina & Pāʻina – Today, Feb. 11 – come to school in red, white and pink.  Bring swimwear, towel, slippers, change of clothes for the pool.
