‘Apu Lanakila 2nd Trimester “Game Changer”
A new twist to our Champion’s Cup competition is the introduction of Ka ‘Umeke Laulima. This aspect of the game involves the addition of new opportunities to earn points for your advisory and grade level! An advisory can now earn points by signing up and completing various service projects. There are basically two different types of service opportunities:
- In-school tasks
- Community-based projects
In-school tasks can be completed for 100, 300, 500 or 1000 points, while community-based projects can be completed for 1500 points.
Stay tuned to tomorrow’s bulletin to learn more about Ka ‘Umeke Laulima …definitely an exciting game changer!
ASPHALT BASKETBALL COURT
The outdoor asphalt-covered basketball courts near the MS bus ramp area is ready for our MSchoolers!
- Play is restricted to morning recess and afternoon recess ONLY.
- An adult must be present near the equipment bin and must grant permission to play.
- Students are NOT allowed to cross the street unless an adult is present near the equipment bin and has granted permission to cross.
- Adult supervisors reserve the right to restrict/prohibit play if they feel it is necessary.
- Students are responsible for returning basketballs to the equipment bin at the end of recess.
Have fun with the equipment that has been provided for you … and MAHALO for adhering to these guidelines.
DETENTION
Students with outstanding detention hours must be aware that additional detention will be assigned for any hours that have not been completed by Founder’s Day. December is a shortened month, therefore all obligations must be fulfilled prior to our Christmas Break. Special arrangements can be made for before and afterschool sessions if you are running the risk of not being able to complete your hours by 12/19/14.
Meat Club – Canned Food Drive
The meat clubʻs December community service project is a canned food drive. Show your aloha spirit this holiday season by bringing in canned foods. To promote festive holiday competition, weʻre turning this into a contest. Canned foods collected will be awarded points. The advisory with the most points will earn up to a $100 pizza prize sponsored by the meat club. All food collected will go to the Hawaii Island Food Basket. Contest food drive is from December 1-8. The winning advisory will be announced on Friday, 12/12.
See Mr. Masuko if you have any questions.
Points:
+1 point for each canned food and no-perishable food item.
+3 points for each canned meat.
+5 points for each canned chicken or ham (main ingredient is chicken or ham).
What would Christmas be without presents???
Many young children go without presents on Christmas.
We would like to be a part of changing that.
Beginning on Dec. 1st through Dec.5th, the Peer Counselors will be accepting $1 donations to purchase gifts for the less fortunate in our community.
This week only, during morning recess, donate just $1 to make a child’s Christmas wish come true.
With your donation, you will receive an angel to decorate with your name and add it to our schools very own lokomaikaʻi giving tree right here in our own Middle school.
Our Middle school tree will be posted outside the Middle school office. It will be built with the angels that YOU decorate from your $1 donation.
Please show your Christmas spirit and lokomaikaʻi by donating to our Lokomaikaʻi Angel Tree and support this awesome cause.
