Advanced Child Development

Advanced Child Development [KHO3190 (Alt 11, 12)] NEW!

Year Course

Prerequisite: None

Open to Grades 11 and 12

We will examine the process of human development and growth from birth to age eight. Students learn about major theories of child development and think critically about the effects of environments (i.e., conditions and practices) on development and growth. Emphasis is placed on appreciating one’s own developmental process. Students’ beliefs and values about children and their development will shape and shift, and they will begin to articulate who they desire to become for their ‘ohana as future parents and caregivers. Learning will extend beyond the classroom in Semester 2 and culminate in a preschool or primary classroom. Students will build their capacity to work with children to support optimal development and growth.
