Sixth Grade Band is offered to all sixth graders. This continual study in band is designed for students with introductory experience in playing band instruments with an emphasis on performance.

It is the intention of this course to encourage the members of of the band to participate in concerts and performance activities. The students’ skills are further developed in the fundamentals of playing a band instrument and understanding basic music concepts and theory. Classes will meet twice in a six-day cycle for a total of eighty minutes.

As an outcome of this study the student will be able to produce a tone in characteristic of his/her instrument, recognize and identify musical symbols and notation and perform exercises, rudiments, and music appropriate for a second semester beginning band level. The student will gain experience in performance skills through participation in two concerts. The exposure to concert band music will further the understanding of the multicultural context of music (similarities/differences) integrated with chronological links to Hawaiian, American and World History

Lessons Concert Dates

In band class the lessons are written in a continual unit to guide the students in a tiered learning process. Each lesson in a repetitive sequenced format reviews and introduces new musical elements in a developmental course of instrumental study and practice.

In band class a learning environment of respect (aloha), teamwork (‘ohana) and cooperation (laulima) is developed and is encouraged throughout the school year.
