Week of ʻAukake 13-17

The word kilo means to closely observe.  This is an important skill to learning!  We talk about looking, listening and thinking during learning times.  This week we put kilo into action going out and looking, smelling and  touching our garden.  Some of the keiki have put on their māla gloves and weeded during recess.

At math time we have begun to work together to problem solved play counting games.  Collaboration is another learning skill that is important to know.

This Week in School

Aloha!

Your keiki are becoming more familiar with our school routines, oli and some songs as we finish our first full week of school.

We have a new welcoming oli this school year that we all are learning!  Attached is an audio of this oli.  I will send home a hard copy next week as well.

We have been listening to school readiness stories and journaling our thoughts through pictures and labels.  In math we are sorting and noticing qualities of same and different. We are counting and working on quick recognition of numbers to ten.  This is what is called subitzing in math terms.   Next week we will begin our guided reading groups- which I am excited to begin!
