Two Stories of Puna

We made a short movie of the keiki reading two stories about the district of Puna. I apologize for a bit of a shaky filming towards the end! I was standing on a ladder holding the iPad free hand…

The Aqua Pond is Happening!

This morning Aunty Sierra came in to help us plant our aqua-garden. She spoke to the keiki about the relationship between the [pond and the garden. The children then put cinder into the plant cups and planted lettuce. We will look forward to seeing some growth when we return from fall break. Mahalo Sierra!

The iPads Are Here!

The keiki were super excited on Monday as they were presented their iPads, shown how to log on and were given their passwords. We are beginning to explore the apps that were downloaded and learning about technology usage. The school is not yet allowing students to take these devices home, But I think that will be allowed as teachers see projects that could be done with them there.

Art With Local Artist, Kathleen Kam

The keiki enjoyed painting their first grade plant, u‘ala, under the direction of Kathleen Kam. She is a local artist whose murals grace a coffee mill in Ka‘u as well as KTA downtown. Even I got into the creative mode and had fun painting too!

Enjoy the ho‘okupu!

Our keiki are learning a new oil in preparation for the huaka‘i to VNP next Friday. We are so pleased with their interest and quick learning of this chant. It, along with some native materials will be offered as the ho‘okupu while we are there.
