Being Thankful

The following are some student samples, writing about home and school.

Mia: I love school because I can learn about lots of new things like Earth or God. I like school because I can play with my friends and learn new things. During class, we have to focus on our work. At recess we can play and have fun. I love school!

Our Story of Ka‘ū

We walked up to the high school mall, garden, to perform and record the mele and stories we thought captured our sense of place for Ka‘ū. We do these activities with the hope that it will make the learning more memorable for the keiki.

Our First Harvest!

The first graders harvested and ate our first garden produce: lettuce. We cut it out of the pots, washed it and let it get cold and crispy in the frig. Then later in the afternoon we enjoyed our lettuce with carrots, croutons and dressing. Some keiki even came back for seconds! We will shortly be replanting another variety of lettuce. Perhaps some of that will make it home for sharing!

A Puna I-Movie

Dylan agreed that it is okay to share his i-movie showing his understanding of sense of place for the moku o Puna.  The keiki helped to take pictures or search for what they needed online.  They then wrote a script for their movie, then recorded. Maika‘i Dylan and mahalo for allowing me to share your work!

Aloha no Ka‘ū!

What an amazing day we had in the beautiful district of Ka‘ū!  The keiki sang this wonderful song twice, here at Punalu‘u and as a makana to the workers at the coffee mill.  (Their offering actually brought tears to many eyes!)
