Hamakua Huaka’i

Yet another awesome huaka’i, this time visiting the district of Håmåkua. We were so very fortunate to be able to meet up with Lucille Chung. She is related to some of the students at our school, but is also a survivor and story teller of the tsunami of 1946. We were so proud of the attentiveness of the keiki as she shared her story and pictures with all of us. We were also able, under the guidance of Kumu Kaleo, to share Hamakua mele and dance with her, our ohana and the point of Laupahoehoe. What a beautiful way to experience sense of place!
