Poetry in Kindergarten

We have done narrative story writing- or “slice of life” as we call it and informational writing so far this year. The students’ writing skills have truly blossomed, where their writings show complete thoughts and contain good inventive and standard spelling.
We now are experimenting with poetry- another purpose for writing. Poems can be written as rhymes or free verse. Poems express feelings, remember important moments, are descriptive and inspire a love for language. We have been listening to many different poems and are writing poems as a group and on our own.
