Martin Luther King Jr.

For the past couple of days the keiki have been busy learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream for freedom. They learned about Dr. Kings life as a young boy and how he fought for his rights “with his words and not his fists.”

During story time they listened to books about Dr. King and learned about other African American leaders during that time such as Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges. Some new vocabulary they learned include: segregation, racism, freedom, equality, and fairness.

After learning about Dr. King and how he lead thousands of people on a Freedom March from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama (which lasted five days), the keiki decorated signs with quotes from Dr. King and went on their own Freedom March through the office.

Come join us on our march for Freedom below!
