Just wanted to share some pics of how different we looked last week! Sorry not to have pictures from Friday- I was out.
This week we have continued to show numbers to 20 using math racks and ten frames. The term number bonds was introduced and practiced. Then we looked at the words compare and order. The keiki compared their names with one another at school and at home. Finally we practiced ordering names and numbers by lengths and amounts! So much learning!
Christian welcomed his ‘ohana, Uncle Robert and Aunty Kim, to our special monthly lunch where we invite and share our families in school!
These pictures show your keiki working in small groups to build a shelter. Many learning activities this year will occur in small groups, where students learn to share their thinking and listen to one another. It is a valuable learning skills- listen and share- that they will build upon as they grow and learn!
The second full week of school has kept us busy. We have learned several new words, both Hawaiian and English. Kaiaulu is community, which will be our focus of study in social studies this year. We also are learning to “visualize” numbers and then show them using tools such as 10 frame boards and math racks. Finally, we have had a couple of lessons using our iPads and came up with digital citizen norms to help us use this learning tool in the best ways.
