Aloha e nå haumåna a me nå Ohana 5B,
Happy 2017! Hope your year has started off w/ a bang! This is the beginning of the “swim” to the finish line! Many huge exciting learning experiences will be forthcoming in the months ahead. Wanted to take the time to share w/you some of the deadlines coming up soon…
The students have been hard at work collecting facts on their arguement writing piece/speech. Here’s a few deadlines to put into your calendars:
Thurs., Jan. 19-Fri., Jan. 27: Students work on fact collection, drafting, conferencing, revising and editing Arguement writing/Speech. All urls should be documented in notes app. This is ON-GOING homework which may not be written in planner daily.
Fri., Jan 27: FINAL Arguement writing/Speech due and will be collected.
Jan. 28-Feb. 1: Practice, practice, practice! Students are to practice speech to wow us! Keeping in mind that the audience will be K-4 students and Kumu as well as school dignitaries and ohana members 🙂 Speech revisions can be made by students if needed during this time to enhance audience experience.
Thurs. Feb. 2-Fri., Feb. 3: ALL students will be presenting their speech to class. Each student will be scored by teammates. Only the highest scores will advance to the semi-finals. Yes, each will be graded too. Those that advance would continue their journey of more practice.
Mon., Feb. 6: Semi-Finals…The top 5 from 5A and 5B will compete to see who takes the great stage of Lunalilo Hale! Scoring will be done by Papa ‘Elima Kumu as well as various faculty and staff members as teammates cheer everyone on!
Wed., Feb. 8: Our annual Lamakü Festival Finals @ Lunalilo Hale. Looking forward to watch the great orators share their mana’o!
Thurs., Feb. 9: GENRE & READING GOALS due today. Students should not wait until this day to turn in vocab and do presentations as we will have only a set time to complete. A majority of students are being proactive and sharing great presentations now to beat the rush. Have your keiki share our class agreements on this as we have been discussing this from the beginning of the year. 🙂 Happy reading ka’u i’a! Mahalo to ohana for your continued support as we work to prepare for bright futures ahead!
