Software Updates Are Temporarily Paused Ahead of PSAT/SAT Testing

Important Notice
Software Updates Are Temporarily Paused Ahead of PSAT/SAT Testing
Testing Dates: October 2 & October 13 — Bluebook does not yet support macOS 27, so every laptop needs to be ready before then.
What’s Happening

A new version of macOS, called Golden Gate (macOS 27), recently became available. Some students were prompted to install it while updating to a smaller update (26.6.2) and accidentally installed Golden Gate instead.

What We’ve Done

As of today, Software Update has been turned off on all student laptops. You won’t be able to install any macOS update — big or small — until this is resolved. If System Settings shows the update option grayed out, that’s expected, not a bug.

How Do I Know If This Affects Me?

Click the Apple menu (top-left corner) → About This Mac and check your version number.

✅ macOS Tahoe (26.x.x)
You’re fine. No action needed.
⚠️ macOS Golden Gate (27.0.0)
See the next section below.
If You’re Already on macOS Golden Gate

You won’t be downgraded, and there’s nothing to do on your own. You will not be able to use your current laptop for PSAT/SAT testing — you’ll need a loaner instead. Please come see us at a Wahi Lolouila so we can get you a loaner.

What You Should Do Now
Don’t try to work around the disabled Software Update setting.
Don’t worry if the update option looks grayed out — that’s intentional.
Already on Golden Gate? Visit a Wahi Lolouila to get a loaner laptop.
Not sure what version you’re on? Check using the steps above.

Questions? Visit a Wahi Lolouila — locations and hours are listed there.

We’ll post an update here as soon as this is resolved and normal updates resume.
