Am I violating copyright laws?

Traditional Copyright is work that cannot be used, adapted, copied, or published without the creator’s permission.  All original work is protected under copyright law when it’s created.  — GCFLearnFree.org

Copyright law gives the owner the right to prevent others from copying, creating derivative works, or publicly performing their works.  This is why you cannot use and adapt an image to create a derivative work.  You can only do this if you get the permission of the copyright owner.
