Waʻa Project Day 3
Students calculated the actual length of their kaʻele, ʻiako, ama and kino. After drawing their lines on the kaʻele, some students started cutting the rough shape using the ban saw.

HW for 1/8-11 Waʻa Project Day 1
- Click on Mr. Courtotʻs VTAM blog on the middle school page.
- Click on VTAM 7th Grade Waʻa Project.
- Open up your Google Classroom and register for his class using the correct classroom code for your period.
- Watch the 2 videos and answer the questions.
You will be DESIGNING AND CUTTING your waʻa on Day 2. You may need to watch the video several times to understand what to do!

“Without The Waʻa, There Would Be No Hawaiian People”
Why is the waʻa so important to our people? Our waʻa project begins today – a journey to learn about our ancestors as well as ourselves. You will be using your individual knowledge and cooperating with others to build a waʻa. Your journey will begin with a review of measurements, scale, ratios and learning the waʻa parts.
