Mahalo Bytemarks Cafe!

On May 29, 2013, our very own Mimi Wong(@blubeetle) and Kimble McCann(@Handyside) were invited by Burt Lum(@bytemarks) and Ryan Ozawa (@Hawaii) to talk about our KS UNconference on their Hawai’i Public Radio Show, Bytemarks Cafe.  It was an exciting day for us and we were especially thrilled because Ryan and Burt are also Unconference enthusiasts!  They’re the organizers of the annual Unconfrenz, another must attend Hawai’i event!

Publishing Photos to a Flickr Group from a Mobile Device

In addition to twitter and instagram, we’ll be posting all the photos from the KS UNconference to a Flickr group.  The Flickr group is public and can be accessed here.  We encourage participants to upload both photos and video to the group.  Instructions on adding to the group from the Flickr App on your mobile device are below:

Note – Android users, this tutorial is from an iPad, but I think it may be similar on a droid.  If not, please comment.

  1. Open the Flickr App on your mobile device
  2. Photo Skitch Document1
  3. Photo Skitch Document2
  4. Photo Skitch Document3
  5. Photo Skitch Document4
  6. Photo Skitch Document5
  7. Go back to main page and select the camera to take a photo
  8. Photo Skitch Document6
  9. Photo Skitch Document7
  10. Photo Skitch Document8

That should do it!  Your Photo will be uploaded to the KS UNconference group.  I know this looks like a lot of steps, but it’s really quite easy!

If you’re a Skitch user, you probably know that’s the app that was used to edit the images above.  If you’re not a Skitch user, you should try it!  It’s an excellent image editing tool!  It even allows for annotating PDFs!

Seventeen More Days!

Seventeen more days to our first ever KS UNconference and boy are we getting EXCITED!  Registration is not required to attend our UNconference, but we highly encourage it.  Space is limited to 100 attendees and preference will be given to Eventbright registrants.

Still not sure of what an UNconference is or why you’d want to attend?  Check out Why Edcamp by EdutopiaJosh Reppun shared this article with us and it’s a great read on why edcamps are trending in education (edcamp=UNconference).

A “typical” day of learning at an Edcamp doesn’t really exist. Each Edcamp is unique and based on the needs of the participants.

This is what makes edcamps and UNconferences so exciting.  Attendees decide what is going to be shared and discussed!  Check out some topics EdcampRSD6 came up with here.

While we will choose our topics on June 3 for our UNconference, if you have an idea for a topic, please use our idea board to share it!  You can also tweet your idease using #ksuncon.  Hope to see you soon!

What’s an UNconference Anyway?

Our KS UNconference is only 31 days away and we’re getting really excited about it!  What we’re wondering is if everyone knows what an UNconference is.  An UNconference is really like an Edcamp and luck for us, Simple K12 has come up with a wonderful guide on how to create an Edcamp.  We wanted to share a table from the guide that compares an UNconference to a Traditional Conference.

As you can see, an UNconference is participant driven and discussion based and the goal is to connect with like minded people and be able to leave with information that can immediately be applied to the classroom. Oh, and it’s FREE!

When we say participant driven, the participants at the UNconference decide what’s going to be discussed.  We do have a place for you to suggest session ideas, rather DISCUSSION ideas, and there will also be an opportunity to make suggestions that day.

So join us for a fun day of sharing with like minded people at our very first KS UNconference!

1st Annual KS Unconference
