AP Biology

[KHO1102 (Alt 12)]

Year, Prerequisite: B grade or better in Biology or Honors Biology and Chemistry or Honors Chemistry, and recommendation from prior science teacher; or instructor approval.  Open to Grades 10-12.

Advanced Placement Biology is a college-level course focusing on the many aspects of biological science including the molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological biology of plants and animals.  This course is designed to provide in-depth instruction through a combination of lecture, seminar, and laboratory exercises and utilizes Biology, by Campbell and Reese, as the reference textbook. The course content and laboratory exercises generally follow that recommended by the College Board and are supplemented with unique material generated by the instructor.  Some laboratory exercises are held on weekends to provide sufficient time for more involved experimentation. This course prepares students for the Advanced Placement Exam given by the College Board in May.  Typically, 70-80% of students achieve a score sufficient to receive some college credit.  Students are required to take the AP Biology exam in May.

AP EXAM FEE is approximately $95.00, payable at the beginning of the second semester. Students will be required to do a research project.
