Ohana Alert for Dec. 1-5

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday!  The jingle bells just got closer!  Its December and the excitement of the season begins…15 school days until we pay tribute to Ke Ali’i Pauahi on Founder’s Day!  That means the mad dash begins to complete & turn in assignments, complete IXL skills by the 18th, and document your Project Kahiau during this season of giving!  As Kaimi would say, “start your engines, rev those motors, & cut a good green light!”  Time to roll!

Mon., Dec. 1-Day 3: “Pennies for Pauahi” campaign begins…all friendly donations are used to provide a preschool keiki an opportunity to attend.  Please køkua, any amount would be greatly appreciated!

Tues., Dec. 2-Day 4:  Aha ‘Opio rep meeting today with Kumu Marcie.

Wed., Dec. 3-Day 5:  EARLY RELEASE DAY for Students.  School ends at 1:30pm!  Please make necessary arrangements the night before!!

Fri., Dec. 5-Day 1: Christmas Concert @ 6:00pm.  Students are to report at 5:30pm to class…no early birds as there will be NO SUPERVISION.

IXL skills that you may select from for this VERY SHORT month:  O.1-O.9 (dividing fractions) and H.1-H.16 (division)…you may also work on any skills from last month that you did not master as great practice!  Don’t forget to continue to read, read, read!

I Am Thankful…

As our Ohana begin preparing all kinds of great dishes to share together tonight, watch multiple football games, & relaxing…we take this time to reflect on all that we are thankful for!  Here’s a poem that I plan to share with our ohana and with all of you, our 5B Ohana.  So thankful!

FISH! Food for Thought #2: Thankful

Thankful for the TEAM!

Thankful for the TEAM!  We’re all IN!

Did you watch the news on TV or read the newspaper lately?  Do you notice that everything headlining both types of media ALWAYS begins with some BAD news?  We have so much to be grateful and thankful for in our world, but it seems that it takes a back seat to the horrible things in our world!  Maybe students need to lead the way into a better world!  I think students have so much to offer our world…to change it for the better, one heart at a time!  Ponder who, what, when, where, why, and how you are thankful.  Write a paragraph including all of the above…who you are thankful for, what you are thankful for, when you are thankful and so on!  Share details for each.  (To be completed in class)  Share the blessings to help the world remember all that is good!  Can’t wait for you to share your thoughts because YOU MATTER!  Let your voices be heard!

iPads Opens Windows to Creativity and FUN for FISH!

iPads have truly opened the window to creativity in our 5B classroom!  Of course it provides students the opportunity to have information at their fingertips, it allows students easy access to contact their teacher to ask clarifying questions on homework, it allows students the ability to fine tune their problem solving skills, and most importantly,  it unlocks their creativity!

Most nights, my inbox gets questions on homework, upcoming events, requests for copies of assignments that were forgotten in class, but every so often…I get something like this!

imageA funny photo that Hayden sent me at first glance, but looking closer it is much more!  Hayden was so creative in making this!  How did he do it?  In his words, this is what you need to create one for yourself:  photos,  the Book Creator and Piccollage apps, and some “silly classmates!”  Looking at it with a “teacher eye” this photo represents creativity in using numerous apps (app-smashing), a student that is using the ipad to explore his passion, students who feel comfortable with each other to be “silly”,  a team that has great pilina (relationships) and a class filled with learning that is FUN!  So much from one goofy photo!  Great job Hayden and continue to “Swim Strong ka’u I’a!  This made me “crack up” as well as MADE MY NIGHT!  Bring on the flood in my inbox!
