Last Ohana Alert for the School Year

Aloha e nā 5B Ohana,

The last week of school is now here, it is with much aloha in my heart that I write this last Ohana Alert for the year….Mahalo for all your support as we partnered together to help “our” children to thrive!  I look forward to seeing you this week at the Hoʻoulu Transition ceremony to mahalo you in person!  Our children WILL swim strong into middle school!

Just some FYIʻs….Summer packets went home on Friday with all students.  It contains important information for next school year as well as summer HOMEWORK that they need to complete and return on the first day of school.  Please be aware that they will be taking a math mastery test on the items in the packet upon their return.  (Just in case your child did not give it to you yet…us parents gotta stick together too as we look out for the best for our children!)  They also have a book that they need to borrow or purchase and complete before the first day.  You might want to start early.  

Mon., May 20-Day 2:  The Papa Alakaʻi will be assisting Papa ʻEkolu again as they create posters of their Civic issues.

Wed., May 22-Day 4: Hoʻoulu Transition practice and last day of Specials classes for the year.

Thurs., May 23:  Hoʻoulu Transition ceremony at 8:30am at Lunalilo Hale.  Please be mindful that this is a cultural ceremony and NOT a graduation.   The students will be having a potluck after the ceremony as they spend their last days together.  E kala mai makua….students only as they continue to bond as a team as they prepare to move “upstream” to middle school.  Last day for Holomua After School Program.

Fri., May 24:  LAST DAY OF SCHOOL…Aloha Wear Friday!  Donʻt forget.  Weʻll be having the last birthday celebration at lunch today.

May Hāweo Awardees Kōkua Others

Hoʻomaikaʻi to Ethan and Davin, the Hāweo Awardees for the month of May…Both boys have been showing kōkua consistently this month!  We celebrate that by helping others, you help yourself! Great job boys!

Aloha e nā Papa Alakaʻi ohana,

Let me begin by saying MAHALO for the wonderful surprises upon my return to class today!  From the beautiful koa jewelry box, embroidered carrier, to the beautiful orchid, yummy blue kalo chips,candy leis, touching cards….I love it all!  Mahalo for treating me so special!

We are now down to 8 days….

Tues., May 14-Day 4: 8-10 in computer lab.  We work on science project from 8-9 and help our 3rd grade buddies create posters from 9-10.  Aha Opio reps go on retreat today.

Wed., May 15-Day 5:  We kōkua both 3rd grade classes in the computer lab again today as they work on their project.  Watch the Kindergarten opera during specials time.

Thurs., May 16-Day 6:  Hāweo Luncheon today…Hoʻomaikaʻi to Ethan and Davin for

Fri., May 17-Day 1:  K-12 Year End Convocation at Koaʻia Gym from 8:15-9:15am.  DRESS WHITES MANDATORY! Slacks for boys and skirts for girls along with white polo shirts.  Nā Koa Reward day today…donʻt forget to bring your swim clothes as we get to sample all those fancy slide on water play day!

Heads Up:  Sat., May 18th: PTO School Store open from 11-1pm.

Ohana Alert for Monday…

Ohana Alert for Monday, May 13…

We go on huaka’i for our annual service learning project.  The students will be doing community service at Onekahakaha Beach Park!  We will be returning in time for lunch on campus and having a “talk story” session with our CEO Mrs. Dee Jay Mailer and new trustee Mr. Nobriga in our 5th grade pod in the afternoon!  More ohana updates for the week will be posted by Monday night.  Mahalo!

Hāweo Award Luncheon

It was a day of celebration as Tab and Aleiya were honored from our FISH!bowl as our Hāweo Awardees for the month of April!  Kōkua is the key!  The girls always “choose” to kōkua others and give unselfishly to others.  They do a wonderful job of leading us by example!  Hoʻomaikaʻi!

Hereʻs the week at a glance, donʻt blink…the weeks are flying by…we are now down to the last 3!  We are surely swimming strong now as the year comes to a close, no time to breathe easy just yet!

Mon., May 6-Day 4: Alakaʻi Iʻa swim upstream today!  The students will be going to Kula Waena (Middle School) for a brief orientation.  They will be meeting their future Papa ʻEono teachers, their new Principal Mr. Scott DeSa, Vice Principal Mr. Jay Chow, as well as taking a tour of the campus led by middle school tour guides!  Mrs. Cathy Moran, who will be their counselor next year will be also speaking with them.  Prepare for summer homework from the middle school teachers!

Tues., May 7-Day 5: MAP Testing in Reading today.  Donʻt forget to get a good nightʻs sleep and plan on eating a good breakfast!  Hāweo Award luncheon today!  Hoʻomaikaʻi to Tab and Aleiya for leading the way and always putting their teammates first!  Great example of always kokua…ing the team!  Weʻll have only the 2nd half of Technology specials today.

Wed., May 8-Day6: MAP Testing in Math today.  Weʻll have an adjusted time for Art Specials today…9-9:45am and our regular time for the 2nd half.

Fri., May 10-Day 2:  Teacher Appreciation Day!  AND I SURE DO APPRECIATE YOU!!!! Cannot say it enough how I have been blessed to have such a wonderful class with wonderful supportive ohana in our team this year!  What a year!  Canʻt believe it is already May!  Substitute in class today too, but promise, will be back on Mon., May 13th.

Heads up for Monday, May 13th…we go on our last huakaʻi to Onekahakaha to do our community service learning project…to help to beautify the beach area of the Honu demigod!  We will be returning to school in time for lunch.  More info will be given to students by May 8th.

ATTENTION PARENTS**Our annual Hoʻoulu Transition Ceremony will be on THURSDAY, May 23RD, please save the date to join us at Lunalilo Hale as the FISH! earn the right of passage to the next level of learning!  Exact time to be announced at a later date, but it will be between 8-10am.   This is a wonderful CULTURAL ceremony that celebrates Papa Alakaʻiʻs  achievements in education and NOT a graduation…please save the inner tubes, balloons, crowns, and leis up to the top of their heads for 12th grade.  (Or any other creative expressions seniors do now)  Mahalo in advance for your cooperation in making this cultural event special!  A lei or 2 would be great, but letʻs keep in mind the larger meaning.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday!  By the way, the Kamehameha Warriors baseball team WON today!  They played the Kohala Cowboys in the 1st round of the BIIF tournament and won 7-2!  Imua Kamehameha!  They will be heading off to the State Baseball Tournament this coming week!

Weʻre swimming into May…Continue to Swim strong…the year is rapidly coming to an end!  20 Days of learning left, letʻs make it memorable!  Donʻt forget that May Day is this Friday….Students are to wear blue aloha attire.  If you have any questions, please contact Kumu Crabbe.

Mon., Apr. 29-Day 6: Art is due!  Reminder that Middle School Elective Forms are due!  Please return to class ASAP, as it is date and time stamped!

Tues., Apr. 30-Day 1: We Skype w/Mr. Cullyʻs class in San Francisco @ 8:00am with Ms. Richardson.

Thurs., May 2-Day 3: May Day rehearsal

Fri., May 3- MAY DAY @ 8:30am at the Hula Pā.  (Should be about 1 hr.)  Bring your lawn chairs or mats to join us as our Papa Alakaʻi performs their last May Day at Kula Haʻahaʻa!  Students also get to watch Middle School performance after.  If youʻd like to sign your child out of school after the May Day program, please let me know so I can give Aunty B the heads up as youʻd need to see her for a pass.  **SCHOOL ENDS AT 11:15 am today.

Important Info to Know:  1)  Students will be participating in Middle School orientation on Mon., May 6 and taking a tour.  Donʻt forget to discuss the highlights.  2)  All blog assignments count as a response grade.  Remind students to double check their work prior to submitting the comment.  Mahalo for everything that you do to support our 5B FISH! as we work together to help all to thrive!
