REQUIREMENT:  9 Genres per Trimester… Picture books and Poetry books are only allowed after completing 7 other genres with a minimum of 120 pages.  Books that are made into movies are ineligible.  If you find a book that contains less than 120 pages, you MUST get it pre-approved by me prior to reading it.  HAPPY READING FISH! Mrs. AhHee, Can you please elaborate on how to keep track with this log?

    • kaahhee says:

      Hi
The log is for your reference at home. (To give ohana the opportunity to see what the students are doing in class). The student have a genre log in class where they keep track of every book they complete by coloring in a block. They should color a block for each book. The visual log will reflect which genre they completed. That will therefore look for another genre if they already have a block colored. For students who have already completed all 9 genres, they can then go back and read the genres that they enjoy. The log also helps all students to become aware of how they are as readers to more accurately set goals for themselves in Trimester #2.

Basically, the log is to help ohana be more informed and encourage the students to read various genres :) Hope this helps, if not, please feel free to call me. :) Together, we all can help our children strive for the 9 genres this trimester. Thanks for your comment, I’m sure it will help other ohana too! :)

Mrs. Ah Hee, what if you don’t finish the 7 genres by the end of the trimester?

  3. Lokelani 5b says:

I am always gonna preserve and never give up. :) Okay, thank you.

    Hi Mrs. Ah Hee,
Just to make sure, once we finish 7 genres do we still have to do vocabulary for the next 2 books?

  5. Lokelani 5b says:

Daniel, it depends. (: I like to read, it is one of my hobbies that I like to do.

    Hi Mrs. Ah Hee,
I’m working on my vocab (5 done so far) and was wondering if The Little Prince (the book you gave me before Christmas break) would count as a book even though it is less than 120 pgs. It has 113. I ask this because I overheard classmates saying, ” Oh, yeah it counts as one book even though it is less than 120 pgs. because Mrs. Ah Hee said so.” So just a verification so I can continue on its vocab words or stop and find another fantasy book. Thank you.

Alrighty! Finished them. Happy new year! Time sure goes by fast doesn’t it? Everyone’s commenting on how tall and big I’m getting… Santa must’ve granted that “growing” wish! >wink< ;)

I read a lot of books, it just that… I NEVER DO THE VOCAB!! :( I will find the time to do it at recess this week, or at home.

    • kaahhee says:

      Hi Loke,
In order for your books to count, you must complete the vocab as well as do a class presentation on your book. Please complete and schedule a presentation. This will have a negative impact on grades if not completed on time. Do not give up! I know you can do it. You must try harder to complete.

Reading is hard but I know I can read 9 genres. I also know I can read 1 million words.
I am going to always read and always have a book. I believe Anyone can read a milliion words because you need to read more than you think. Chapter books are my favorite because every time I stop I want to Know what happens. Picture books are not good like that. Pictures help but not often. I know I am a good reader.
