2010 invitation[2]

The 5th graders worked hard to put on a meaningful performance for all of us.  What did you learn from the play?  What do you think some of the “big ideas” were?  Did anything surprise you?  What do you wonder about?  Is there anything you are inspired to learn more about?

I learned that the people were planing on bombing the areas by Kalama valley and thats exactly were I live and if they bomb kalama valley then all of us have to leave our island and move then come back and the houses will be built already but we will all have a new and built house since they have bombed our homes

  2. Kia`i Says:

In the show it said that the U.s. Navy came to Hawai`i and they were practicing shooting boms

  3. Pono Says:

I wonder how Edy died. Did he drawn. The miletary was testing the bombs. The bombs kept hitting Kaho’olawe. We needed more water for the sugar plants but the fish kept dieing. They voted Hawaii to be a state or stay at teratory.

  4. Evan Says:

The message to this play was:STATEHOOD ruined Hawaii’s CULTURE, like all the wonderful trees and nature is now, poof. All gone. Now, buildings took over. Before Hawai’i became a state, there was a vote with 2 choices. Statehood or stay at teratory. But there were supposed to be 3 choices. Becoming a independent nation. People didn’t want their land to be abandon with buildings. I infer that if there was a 3rd choice, they would vote for that choice.

  5. Puuwai Says:

On this play they talked about Kaho’olawe. The millatary was practicing, boming at Kaho’olawe. It was bad because they killed nature. Before Hawai’i became a state they had to vote. Their were 2 choices.

    1. To become a state
    or
    2. Become a teratory. They should have had one more.

  6. Keanu Says:

On the last play, the 5th graders told us two stories of people in Kaho’olawe. They both are similar because they both end with people who died.I wonder how they died? They sacrificed their lives to save the land because the military was testing bombs.

  7. Trent Says:

Today was the 5th grade play. I learned that three men died. They sacrificed there lives to save people. I also learned that the military was bombing Kaho’olawe. Do they even care about nature? Before Hawai’i was a state, they had to vote, 1.Become a teratory.
2.Become a state. There was one more but they couldn’t vote that one. Why couldn’t they vote that one?

  8. Dylan Says:

I learned that Hawwai`i turned into state hood because the form had no third question.I think we should balance everything.

  9. Kason Says:

I learned that that people have to vote in orter to make Hawai’i a state because some people did not like Hawai’i and other people like Hawai’i.

  10. Caitlin Says:

    One of my wonders is
How did Eddie die? Eddie risked his life for other people. The good side is a helicopter came and saved the other people.

  11. Tara Says:

I want to know what year the military was bombing Ka’ho’olawe.one big Idea was that no one can steal are culture. I’m happy we got to choose what we wanted to become. I’m happy we became a state if we didn’t become a state we wouldn’t have the same ethnicities we have now.

  12. kalista Says:

The part that I wanted to learn more about was when Eddie risked his life for his other friends.I want to learn about the part where they were all on the boat together.I wonder what ocean they were on?Any ways, the performance was soooooooooo AWSOME!!!!!,sorry, I got a little over reacted right there!

  13. Camille Says:

One thing that inspired me to learn more about was the part where Eddie risked his life (0=
but died )0= . But the good part is that the other people on the Hokule’a got saved. I think how Eddie died was because he drowned or got attacked by a shark.

  14. Camille Says:

    YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH Eddie!!!!!!!!!!!! :-):-)

  15. Camille Says:

    Eddie risked his life 🙁

  16. Camille Says:

😐 ?why did Eddie risk his life? 😐

  17. Hunter Says:

I learned in 1987, Eddie Aikau
risked his life for others on
canoe. The good news is that
    a helicopter saw the others
in the canoe. And safely they
got to their homes. The sad
news is that Eddie Aikau died.
    Sadly, they only found his
    surfboard in the water. They
never found his body, only the surfboard only.

  18. kalani Says:

I learned that many years ago Statehood dug a ditch that led from the windward side to the leeward side so the sugarcane could grow.

  19. kalani Says:

uhh what I meant to say was: statehood dug a ditch that connected a windward stream to a leeward sugarcane so it could get more water and it can grow all the time so statehood could get more business.

  20. Charlize Says:

I learned that people sacrifice there life for outher people.

  21. keenyn Says:

I wonder what happan to eddie wen he went for help.I think what happan was he starved.

  22. Esther Says:

I laernd from the play that 3 men were spying on the Kahoolave bech becuase peopl were boming the bech.

  23. Bailey Says:

I learned that the millatary used Kaho’olawe as a practice for using boms. They stoped in 1990. I learned that the suger company made a dich in the windward side to get water. I think that when they sang Amarica the Biutiful and Hawaii Ponoi it was creative. The suger company closed in 1983.

  24. Koali'i Says:

I learned that in 1959 Hawaii became a state. Because they voted on a balet but they only have to questions there suppost to be three. So they chose statehood and the econemy got higher cause tehy built hotels and roads. Then they cut down the trees and put it in a tree museum. They charge people money just to see the trees. So some people never want Hawaii to be a state because they cut down the trees.

  25. Quinn Says:

Thanks guys for watching me and the rest of the fifth grade perform. I really enjoyed it and I hope that when it is your turn to do a play, Mrs. Nakamoto will be proud of you all just like how all my former teachers are proud of me.:)
