We finished it! What did you think? What was your favorite part? Do you think Miss Barmy is ever coming back? If your blood was put on a slide and looked at under a charascope, what do you think we’d see?

We just finished Chapter 12 today and so much has happened! Cecilia is hurt. Emmy has found out that the girls are alive. And something or someone has fallen from the 2nd floor of the shoe shop.

But what I want to know is, have you ever felt the way Emmy did when she “lifted her shoulders and dropped them, as if trying to get the weight to slide off?” What was she feeling? If you’ve felt that way before, what made you feel that way?

We’ve been so busy lately that we’re only in Chapter 4 of Emmy and the Home for Troubled Girls.  What do you think so far?  Who do you think Ana, Merry, Lisa and Berit are?  What role do you think they are going to play in Emmy’s life?

Some of you mentioned that reading Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat made you change your minds about rats. Why do you think some people have a negative opinion of rats? Keeping that in mind, why do you think Lynne Jonell chose a rat as the main character in this story?

How did you feel about the idea of being rich before we read this story? Did you want to be rich? How do you feel about it now? Did Lynne Jonell’s story change your mind about this or anything else?
