Forming islands with Karen Hackler

Today you had an opportunity to experience the wonderful storytelling of Karen Hackler. She shared the stories of Maui and The Flying Taro with you. Then you worked in teams to dramatize the forming of an island. What did you think was the most interesting part of the experience? What did you think was the most difficult part? What would you do differently next time?

The most interesting part was when we started to rise up and when we made our hands like the lava. The most difficult part was when we had to put our feet up to make our land come up.

I think the hardest part was when we had to form our island because we had to plan what our island would look like.

Today was awesome!I enjoyed this time today with Karen Hackler!I think it was cool that we were shaping different islands.The cool things about the groups were the endings.Each of the endings were different yet they were all cool in some way.

I think that making the islands with our bodies was hard to do because we had to plan the making of our islands. We had different ideas and we could choose only one.
I feel that Karen Hackler did a good job of presenting our class with her story.

When Karen Hackler visted our school,we pretended to be islands. We had to find a partner, then we had to find one pair of partners. There had to be tow girls, and tow boys in one group. Then we had to sit down in a cyrcle. Then all the groups told the rest of the group there plan. Then after everyone shard there plan, all the groups showd the other groups there plan that they decided there going to do.

I like when we got to work as a team . It is not just fun for me it is fun for the whole grade level.

Planning the islands was difficult because we had to think of ideas about forming our islands. I learned that the legend was about Maui going fishing with his brothers and he pulled up islands.

I think if she didn’t teach us about Maui’s fishhook we wouldn’t have learned about how the Hawaiian islands came to be. I think that making the islands with our bodies was kind of hard because we had to form a lot of shapes with our bodies.

I think the most interesting part was when Mrs. Hackler showed us the flying taro by acting it out. It was even more fun when we made our own teams to form an island. Kason, Caitlyn, Trent and I made an awesome island and our team work was GREAT! Mrs. Hackler had to ask us to do our acting out again because guess what… we forgot the ending! The most difficult part was putting our feet on Kasons knees and starting a eruption. I think our picture look’s cool!

I had so much fun! The easy part was when we formed the island. the difficult part was when we put our thoughts together to come up with our idea.
What was so nice was when we learned that we had to put courage in one another.One more thing I learned was the way you speak to someone makes a really big impact in their LIFE.

I loved when Karen Hackler came.It was so fun because she read us a story and we acted it out. She told us tounge twisters it was so funny.

It was so fun we made ilands out of people.

I learned that you have to have to have a begining middle and end .My mom says you have to end what you started thanks mom for that tip.
