Swimming For Grades K, 1, 2

It’s swimming time for the lower grades at Nae’ole Pool each afternoon.  It has been a fun time with the small ones.  Mahalo nui to all of the volunteers who come and support your keiki in the pool.  I could not do it without you and their safety is the most important.  This time is for some instruction in basic water exploration and to give me a quick assessment of where each child’s experiences are in the water.

The keiki are very excited to go swimming and do a very good job with the tasks I have them perform.  I encourage parents to have your keiki take formal swim lessons during the summer break.  It can only help them be comfortable in the water and learn the skills necessary to perform the tasks we have in our curriculum from elementary to high school.  Here at Kamehameha Schools, there is a graduation requirement of completion of a 400 yard endurance swim , so we  like to start that journey early to ensure success for all.

There are swim lessons this summer at the NAS Pool and at UH-Hilo.  I have not seen any info yet on these two programs.  There is a possibility that our pool may be closed for repair this summer.  Your keiki need your support in giving them those opportunities to learn to be safe and confident in our island home.

Mahalo,

Mrs. Lee
