Connectivity:
Q: Can students access the internet from home?
A: The school does not require students to have internet access from home. However, laptops can be connected to Road Runner, DSL, Clearwire or other high speed Internet connections.
Q: Are students able to print at home?
A: Yes. The school does not require students to have printer access from home. However, standard printer drivers will be installed on the laptops. (See KHS 1:1 Learning website for lists of print drivers).
Q: Can students download printer drivers if their printer does not work with the pre-loaded drivers?
A: No. You are not allowed to download additional printer drivers. There is no KS ITD support for home printing.
Q: Will the dorms have wireless Internet access?
A: Yes. Boarding students will have wireless access in the common areas and student rooms.
Q: When our children connect to our home internet service, will they have filtering of inappropriate web sites?
A: No, parents must monitor the internet actions
Q: Can we use a webcam through Skype or other services to talk and see real-time with our boarder children?
A: No, these external services present a potential security risk to the KS network by allowing viruses, spyware, malware and other unwanted software to enter our system.
Q: Will students be able to access the KS file server from home?
A: No. Students will be able to access the KS file server from school only. Email, however, is accessible from home.
