Last week students from Kumu Sone’s IT Academy Foundations course participated in a two day App Development Workshop. Students learned how to use the Mac program Xcode to create their own apps. Aside from gaining basic skills in programing, students were able to showcase their creative side as they developed their own, simple practice apps to test what they learned. Kumu Sone shared, “Giving the students exposure to the new wave of mobile technology through the app building workshop was an amazing experience. I wanted to include this topic in my curriculum but I just didn’t know where to begin, now I can take off where this workshop ended and continue the learning.”
What did the students think?
“Learning to build apps was awesome, there really is no limit as to what we can do with this, this is my future!”
“I didn’t know anything about code, but now I can actually read and write code.
“I got so much out of the workshop and I liked how we were able to be creative in making our own apps.”
The App Development Workshop, which was sponsored by KS ITD’s Emerging Tech group, featured Honolulu Community College instructor Ms. Monir as the presenter. This was the second workshop offered by KS ITD, this spring. The first one took place on the Kamehameha Schools Hawai’i campus. The third and final workshop this spring will take place at the Kapālama campus in March.
