The students were so blessed on Tuesday as they got a special visit from Mrs. Susan Oxnevad, the Director of Education of Thinglink. Anake Susan was a teacher for 29 years in Chicago, IL prior to her joining Thinglink to share her techie talents with the world! We heard that she would be in the islands and invited her (by tweeting her) to our class to share ‘ike w/us on virtual reality 360! We had a wonderful learning experience (many tech issues on our part that students were able to trouble-shooting) trying out the new tool w/her guidance! The students got to “virtually” visit London, explore Finland, see the Northern Lights, and “dive” into the ocean depths. How cool to visit new places in our world w/Thinglink! Our headmaster, Mrs. Naeole-Wong came to class and learned along with us!
What good is new learning if not shared…so, the students took newfound learning & passed it on! They shared w/Carlie, a KSH Senior, who is part of the Lamakü dual high school/college credit program. Win-Win situation~Carlie came to our class to learn about teaching and students teaching Carlie! What a great way to solidify new learning…by teaching someone else! Check out the students latest work Genius Hour work (submitted on time) w/Thinglink as they practice to be proficient. Stay tuned for more posts as the students are beginning to use the 360 camera today! You won’t want to miss our mannequin challenge work! Should be a blast to see 🙂

One team, one heart…working together to make a positive difference in our one world!
Celebrating our accomplishments for trimester #1
In class, the students & I always refer back to our essential question of “What is Your Kuleana?” and how it’s necessary to know it, but more importantly…put it into ACTION to SHARE it! So proud of Kekainalu today for sharing his mana’o w/Kula Ha’aha’a on how to accomplish perfect attendance! So proud of ALL of ka’u i’a for putting ho’omau, ha’aha’a, & ho’ihi into ACTION!! Always with true ALOHA! Of course, fun all the way…being ourselves! Share your aloha with the world and make someone’s day!
Rhian was so excited today to receive this! She participated in the KSH Pae Mua Swim team which practiced everyday after school for approx. 2 hrs. Kuleana isn’t only at school. It is also being able to show dedication and determination in whatever we choose to do! Congrats! Way to go Girl!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend w/ohana! You will be working on your individual projects on our inquiry on “What is Your Kuleana” on Monday. You would need to have your final feature article on your self-selected topic turned in to the sub! (This is the 2nd extension). Those who have already turned in final, it is on the side table by back door! Please double check that it is there! If yours is NOT there, I do not have it. :0
Please bring all your research notes on your topic to class as you will be working on a tech project that relates to your research. The sub will be sharing the requirements with you. **NOTE: Friendly reminder, 7 IXL skills are due every month and 9 genres for reading for Tri. #2 🙂
Wow! Seems like the year just began…Student-led Conferences for trimester #1 is in the history books and we’re so close to the Thanksgiving holidays! Can you believe it?
I send out a mahalo nui to Ohana 5B for your unwavering support to help “our” keiki thrive! The students so appreciated the intense listening, the many words of encouragement, the joint strategizing & offerings of assistance, and the tons of hugs and kisses as they reflected on their learning and progress made in the first trimester! Students took deep breaths, calmed their nerves, and “swam strong” to share their strengths & areas of need in core content areas, their adoption of growth mindset, on being FISH! philosophers, reflections on behavior, how teamwork is a positive force in class & so much more!
Here’s the week at a glance, as we all prepare for the holidays! Just a friendly reminder, if you see magenta…it is a call to students~action required & if you see blue, Ohana notification 🙂 Hope the color coding is a good visual 🙂
Mon., Nov. 21~Day 6: Sub will be in class today, all Gr. 3-5 teachers will be at a math training on campus.
Tues., Nov. 22~Day 1: Thanksgiving Ekalesia today…please wear mandatory dress whites!
Wed., Nov. 23~Day 2: E Ola No t-shirt day...show your school spirit & wear your t-shirts. 1st Trimester awards assembly today @ 8:00am in Ha’aeamahi Dining Hall. “A Taste of Thanksgiving” Pa’ina today.
