Aloha e nā Haumāna (Hi Students)

Let the cross-culture, real-world, global collaboration begin!  As some of you may know, over the summer, na kumu o ka Papa ʻElima (Gr. 5 teachers) traveled over the ocean to the continent of Asia, (Jinhua,China to be exact) to teach students there!  Mrs. Kay and I taught at the Rise American School for two weeks, we worked with many students ages 8-15, and made numerous Chinese teacher friends!  While there, many of the lessons were focused on hoʻihi (respect) and kuleana (responsibility).

Hoʻihi and Kuleana for self, community, & country.  Just as the students in class at Kamehameha Schools-Hawaiʻi are learning also.  Long story short, the students in China learned about the plight of the ʻalala and what people are doing in Hawaiʻi to help it to thrive.  Then they connected understanding their kuleana for the Giant Panda which is endangered in China & did lots of research.

Now the students here at KS-Hawaiʻi have heard about my students in China and would like to meet…to build a global collaboration & share kuleana with hoʻihi to make our world a better place for everyone and everything to thrive!  Here are a few short videos that the keiki (children) have made to send

We are all kūkaukaʻi….Interdependent!  Stay tuned and “dive back” into our class blog as we continue our global collaboration throughout the year!
