Just a friendly reminder to keep reading and to keep the trimester reading goal in mind as the hours of the weekend race by! Remember to select books of different genres as you need to read 9 different ones. Why? you ask…Why can’t you read your favorite genre over and over again? Well, let me share with you that many times students get stuck on one genre that they “think” is their favorite, but find when they TRY something new, they like it too!
Ponder this….do you only eat only your favorite food? Everyday, all day long? Imagine eating your favorite food for every meal? (Come on, be honest…after a while, you’ll get sick of Cookies and Cream ice cream, right?) That’s much is not good for your body, right? You need a variety of foods to keep you healthy! Just like books, reading only the same genre will not keep your mind healthy…you need a variety! Happy reading and happy humming along to the song on the link above on reading! REMEMBER: When you see pink, it is a call for action. Students: Please post a comment on the following: What are you reading now? Write a paragraph which includes why you selected the book you are currently reading, share a brief synopsis of the book, and 1 question you have about it or a connection you made while reading.
P.S. Think of what we discuss in class…If YOU are hating on reading, then YOU need to start selecting books that you LOVE instead! Why are YOU selecting books that are not interesting to you? You can find a book that’s interesting to YOU in every genre! Ask a FISH!mate for a recommendation, ask a former FISH! (the 6th graders moaned and groaned about reading 9 genres until they started discovering new genres that they loved), or come and chat with me, I love books and always willing to share a recommendation or two or three! 🙂 Have a great weekend Ka’u I’a!
