Middle School FISH! Still Swimming STRONG!

Here are the girls this weekend, honoring Liliʻuokalani on Oʻahu!
Congrats Pomai, Ashley, & Lokelani!

Hoʻomaikaʻi to the 6th Grade FISH! Philosophers!  They extensively studied the life and times of our last Hawaiian Monarch, Liliʻuokalani in class last year & shared their knowledge in many ways.  One way was to create an original piece of poetry on a significant event of her life that would share learning with others, capture the feeling of that time, as well as evoke emotion in the reader.  The pieces were all so wonderful that I entered the whole class in the QLCC poetry contest!  Congratulations to Pomai , Ashley, & Lokelani for winning 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place in the Queen Liliʻuokalani Childrenʻs Center Poetry Writing Contest.  The girls were honored with a dinner here at QLCC in Hilo & also at Washington Place, the home of Liliʻuokalani on Oʻahu.  Notice the lei that they wear, purple crown flower.  Liliʻu chose the purple crown flower as a symbol during her reign.  They got to see first hand the places that they researched in their studies about our last Queen!  Hoʻomaikaʻi!  Keep swimming strong, kaʻu iʻa!
