Meet the Newest FISH! Philosophers of 5B!
Aloha & Welcome ē na Papa ʻElima Ohana!
Our school year together has officially started and Iʻd like to take this time to welcome all of you into our ohana. It was great meeting most of you at open house & I look forward to meeting you all soon! Here are some of the types of postings that you can expect to see throughout the year on our class blog:
Weekly Ohana Alerts and Updates-This will give you a quick glance of what to expect for the week. Classroom Happenings-Content area learning that is going on in class. Special Events- To share with you the experiences that our keiki are having. Student Assignments- At times students will be given assignments to complete through our blog. Classroom Successes- Posts of the many success stories and accomplishments of all the keiki…AND Tons of Photos & Videos to allow you a glimpse into our “5B fishbowl!”
To “swim” with us…important information for ohana:
1) Homework is given every Monday-Thursday. It will consist of 30 minutes of reading a SURF book (Book of student choice) & completion of an At Home reading log which requires a parent signature daily. Please sign log only AFTER reading is done for the day & another content area assignment which was previously covered in class. Homework should take approximately 50-60 mins. daily (in accordance to national standard of 10 mins per grade level 5th gr. x 10 mins=50 mins). NOTE: * If at anytime, homework takes more than 1 hr. 30 mins., please write me a note, call, or email me so I can further assist students in class.
2) Our class blog will offer you an opportunity to “dive into our fishbowl” at your convenience to see what the 5B FISH! Philosophers are doing. Checking in weekly (Or More often) will keep you in the “swim.” I usually will post 2-3 times a week…at times even daily. If you see pink, it will be an alert to students that they must complete an assignment by posting a comment on the blog. If you see blue, it is a visual cue for parents.
