Hi Students,

After reading “Pedro’s Journal” by Pam Conrad, a historical fiction book, about sailing with Captain General of the Ocean Sea, Christopher Columbus and watching the video link below, what do you think about him?  On Monday, some will celebrate Discoverer’s Day in his honor for discovering America.  In the book, was the islands he landed on & claimed for Spain uninhabited?  What does the word discover mean?  Look up the words discover and uninhabited. Is Christopher Columbus a hero or zero?  Share your opinion on this topic and tell why you feel that way. Remember, always stop to ponder, think, than comment!   In class on Tuesday, we’ll be reading the book “Encounter” by Jane Yolen which will share another perspective (point of view).
