Web Tool Information

Kū I Ke Ao – Be of the world.  Be like the world in which one lives in.

The statement above is one of the components of Kamehameha Schools WEO or Working Exit Outcomes.  The WEO help to guide us, as educators, in the direction that we take in providing learning opportunities for our students.  In an effort to allow our students to Kū I Ke Ao or Be of the world, we will be learning about the appropriate use of technology in class and putting the things that we learn into practice.  As a part of this twenty-first century learning, we will be using a variety of Web 2.0 tools.  Below you will find a list of the tools that we are using along with the web addresses.  Each of these tools has been created especially for educators and students.  All student involvement is overseen and controlled by teachers.

It is important that you understand that we are using the versions of these tools that have been developed for educators and students.  With this there are a variety of privacy options.  Some of the work that is done using these tools will be completely private, only viewable by the students and myself.  Other work that is produced will be semi-private.  Semi-private means the student work will not be public on the internet and will not show up if searched for with a search engine.  But, if the student or teacher shares the link, anyone with the link can see the student’s work.  This is an ideal way for students to be able to share their work with others but still maintain a certain amount of privacy online.  It’s similar to an unlisted phone number.

Please also realize that your child will be using a teacher-monitored account for each of these tools, for school related purposes only.  If your child is using one of the sites at home for a school project, that is fine.  Because these are web based tools all changes from any computer are able to be monitored by the teacher.  However, if your child would like to use the tools for purposes other than school projects, it is important that you realize that without the school version of these tools a student must be 13 years old to use them and/or have parental permission, depending on the tool.
