Hawaiian Class Reminder

Aloha-

There have been some questions regarding homework expectations for Kumu Silva’s Hawaiian class. Here is what she said:

“My expectation is that all of the keiki are practicing something that we learn in class every day for 5-10 minutes a day. Here are some things that you can do:”

1. Post a sentence in Hawaiian to “Nā Pepeke” on Showbie
2. Use wehewehe.org to find the Hawaiian word for things we see in or outside our home
3. Go to showbie and look at other peopleʻs videos in the class discussion
4. Practice our mele and oli

Princess’s Ball Reminder

Our annual Princess’s Ball is quickly approaching. All students should come to school in their special attire on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Boys are asked to wear dress pants, belt, covered shoes and a collared shirt. The girls’ attire should include a dress or skirt & blouse with sandals that have a backstrap. If the girls’ dresses have spaghetti straps or are a halter style, please wear a sweater or jacket to cover the shoulders. We will be touring the gardens at Nani Mau, so please be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

Mr. Kamisato has graciously agreed to be our professional photographer for this exciting event, so don’t fear, lots of pictures will be taken. We look forward to seeing you, keiki, at the ball!

Fun Day at the County Fair

The Hilo County Fair is in town, but it doesn’t open until tomorrow.  So how did Papa ‘Ekolu get to go to the fair today when it’s only Wednesday?  Their kumu and Specials teachers planned a great day of learning using a real live event to support them. Forces and motion, acrobatics, art and photography, math, money, reading and writing.  All of these subjects and skills were used and practiced while observing, recording, collaborating and having fun at the fair.  Just look at the smiles on their faces in this short slideshow of pics!  Learning is fun!

I mua Week!

What a fun week it has been dressing up in our PJs, sportswear, and beachwear to show our school spirit!  Today we ended the week with a Pep Rally with the entire school K-12 in Koai’a Gym.  The gym was filled to the brim with happy, smiling faces, loud chanting and cheering as we showed what it means to be a Kamehameha Warrior.

Go, Big Blue!
