5G: Working with Mixtures

Starting off their final year at kula ha`aha`a, the fifth grader conducted their first experiment of the year. This trimester students in fifth grade will be exploring the properties of mixtures and solutions. The overall theme of this trimester is: How do solids, liquids and gases interact with each other?

Here in this experiment, the fifth graders are practicing measuring skills as each element needed to be measured out exactly in order for the experiment to work. Student used measuring cups and spoons to measure out the salt, gravel and water. Students are gaining skills in using various science equipment such as funnels, glass beakers and making filters for the funnels.

Take a look at a quick video on the steps taken during this experiment.
