Photoshop Notes (For Proj.1)
Default canvas size: 1024 X 768
Width: 1024 pixels
Height: 768 pixels
Resolution: 72 pixels
Color mode: RGB Color
Background Content: Transparent
New Canvas
File – New , Type canvas dimensions, Click OK
Image to Photoshop from Internet (Google)
- Search for image
- View original image
- Right click on image
- Go to Edit – copy image
- File – New – Enter, then Edit-Paste
Selection (Marquee)
To deselect – command + D
Layers
Unlock a layer – Click on the lock to unlock
Putting an image onto a new canvas
- Select object
- Edit – Copy
- File – New – Enter
- Make sure image is correct size
- If not, then Image – Image Size
- Type correct dimensions
- Drag image to your canvas.
Resizing an Image
- Go to image – image size
- Make sure you are using “pixels”
- Change Pixel dimensions (height or width) and click Ok.
- Using the Move Tool, drag image to your canvas.
Clone Stamp Tool
- Choose the clone stamp tool
- Bring your cursor over the area where you want to clone
- Hold alt/option and click once
- Place your cursor over the area you want the duplication to happen
- Hold left click and move mouse to create desired duplication (clone)
Replace color
- Choose layer you want to replace color
- Image – Adjustments – Replace color
- Using the eyedropper (pick color tool), choose color you want to replace
- Move fuzziness slider until picture in replace color window turns white
- Adjust hue to change color
- Adjust saturation and lightness as needed.
- Click Ok (Can’t change greyscale colors such as black, white, grey)
Transparent layers

- .png (portable network graphic)
- .psd (photoshop document)
Inverse
To get the inverse of a selection:
1. Select object using a selection tool (lasso tool, magic wand, etc.)
2. Go to “select” then click on “Inverse”
Naming a Project
Creative_Name – Your Name
Naming a Reflection
Reflection1 – Your Name
Text resizing
1. Click on text icon
2. Select “text” to be resized(highlight)
3. Change font & font size
Creating Shadows
- Drag image to your canvas
- Name your image
- Duplicate layer (Layer – Duplicate layer)
- Name your layer (Call it shadow)
- Flip Shadow layer (Edit – Transfer – Flip Vertical)
- Hide image (Click on eye icon)
- Magic Wand (click magic wand on background of shadow layer
- Select – Inverse
- Paint brush – Color shadow
- Deselect (Command +d)
- Bring Image back (click on eye)
- Distort shadow (Edit – Transform – Distort)
- Lower Opacity (slide opacity to lower percent)
