Photoshop Notes  (For Proj.1)

Default canvas size: 1024 X 768

Width: 1024 pixels

Height: 768 pixels

Resolution: 72 pixels

Color mode: RGB Color

Background Content: Transparent

New Canvas

File – New , Type canvas dimensions, Click OK

Image to Photoshop from Internet (Google)

  1. Search for image
  2. View original image
  3. Right click on image
  4. Go to Edit – copy image
  5. File – New – Enter, then  Edit-Paste

Selection (Marquee)

To deselect – command + D

Layers

Unlock a layer – Click on the lock to unlock

Putting an image onto a new canvas

  1. Select object
  2. Edit – Copy
  3. File – New – Enter
  4. Make sure image is correct size
  5. If not, then Image  – Image Size
  6. Type correct dimensions
  7. Drag image to your canvas.

Resizing an Image

  1. Go to image  – image size
  2. Make sure you are using “pixels”
  3. Change Pixel dimensions (height or width) and click Ok.
  4. Using the Move Tool, drag image to your canvas.

Clone Stamp Tool

  1. Choose the clone stamp tool
  2. Bring your cursor over the area where you want to clone
  3. Hold alt/option and click once
  4. Place your cursor over the area you want the duplication to happen
  5. Hold left click and move mouse to create desired duplication (clone)

Replace color 

  1. Choose layer you want to replace color
  2. Image – Adjustments – Replace color
  3. Using the eyedropper (pick color tool), choose color you want to replace
  4. Move fuzziness slider until picture in replace color window turns white
  5. Adjust hue to change color
  6. Adjust saturation and lightness as needed.
  7. Click Ok  (Can’t change greyscale colors such as black, white, grey)

Transparent layers

Image that supports transparent layers

  • .png  (portable network graphic)
  • .psd (photoshop document)

Inverse

To  get the inverse of a selection:

1.  Select object using a selection tool (lasso tool, magic wand, etc.)

2.  Go to “select” then click on “Inverse”

 Naming a Project

Creative_Name – Your Name

Naming a Reflection

Reflection1 – Your Name

Text resizing

1.  Click on text icon

2.  Select “text” to be resized(highlight)

3. Change font & font size

 

Creating Shadows

  1. Drag image to your canvas
  2. Name your image
  3. Duplicate layer (Layer – Duplicate layer)
  4. Name your layer (Call it shadow)
  5. Flip Shadow layer  (Edit – Transfer – Flip Vertical)
  6. Hide image (Click on eye icon)
  7. Magic Wand (click magic wand on background of shadow layer
  8. Select – Inverse
  9. Paint brush – Color shadow
  10. Deselect (Command +d)
  11. Bring Image back (click on eye)
  12. Distort shadow (Edit – Transform – Distort)
  13. Lower Opacity (slide opacity to lower percent)
