Picture Tales Group Presentation

Assignment:

  1. Get into groups of 5.  (teacher will select groups)
  2. Each member in the group will receive a picture.
  3. As a group discuss how each picture nonverbally communicates what the picture says.
  4. Put the pictures of your group together to create a story that can be presented to the class.
  5. The story must be creative, realistic, and believable. (e.g. How does the picture communicate nonverbally?)
  6. Each group member must participate in the telling of the story.  Each group member will hold up one picture and speak as if they took that picture.
  7. Presentation must be organized.  It is important that each member of the group know what they are responsible for in the presentation and know when during the presentation they will be speaking (e.g. who speaking first, second, etc.).

Grading:

1.      You will be graded on your group’s ability to work together to connect the five pictures.
2.      Fluency – the ability to present a speech with ease, confidence and without hesitation.
3.      See rubric for grading; all members of the group will receive the same grade.

Things to work on:

  1. Practice and rehearse presentation as a group; group will need to meet outside of class to practice.

  2. Speak to the audience by making eye contact.

  3. Eliminate reading from your notes.  If you do not practice you will become dependent on your notes.

  4.  Speak clearly by articulating your words.

  5. Speak loud enough so that the audience in the back can hear you.

  6. Eliminate “Pidgin”, slang, and control “um’s”, “k”, “yeah” etc.
  7. Don’t drop ends of words/sent.
  8. Control movement/swaying.
  9. Use energy/enthusiasm to help tell the story.
  10. Keep hands out of pockets.
