About me

Aloha!  My name is Liane Nakamura I am currently  the Dean of Students (aka School Counselor) for the Class of 2025, here at Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus (former 5th grade kumu).   Here is a little bit about me…

I was born and raised in Paia, attended Doris Todd, Kalama, and graduated from King Kekaulike.  After working Summer PALS for 3 years I decided to attend UH Manoa to get my bachelors in elementary education because I loved working with KIDS.  After teaching 3rd grade for one year at Makawao School, I decided to get my Masters degree in School Counseling.  I could not believe all the obstacles that my students went through at such an early age.  I felt that a Counseling degree would help me bridge my student’s family/home life with making learning fun.   I attended Point Loma Nazarene University and National University, San Diego where I got my Masters in School Counseling.  I  was also an 11th grade counselor at King Kekaulike and taught 5th grade for 8 years here at KSM!  Now, I am currently serving as the Dean of Students aka Freshman Counselor and will loop with them for the next F-I-V-E YEARS!  Iʻm stoked.

During my free time, I love spending time with my son (Kylan-9) and my daughter (Maika lei-6).  If we aren’t at a hula performance, wrestling tournament, soccer, football, or basketball game… you can find us at the beach diving, surfing, paddle boarding, body boarding, or fishing.    I absolutely love the ocean, traveling, riding rollercoasters, camping, playing sports, hiking, and being outdoors!  Random fact: I am easily motivated with fried or dried tako, ahi poke, sushi, pastele, or lumpia…hahahaha JUST JOKING!  Please feel free to reach out, I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
