E kala mai for being a bit behind the times in posting. Last week was quite the fun, activity filled week here at our kula.
We started off the week by attending a very special performance by the Giordano Dance Company from Chicago. These professional dancers took us through the history of dance commencing with the African cultural dance all the way through the roaring 20’s to the hip hop of today. At the end of their performance, our very own Kumu Crabbe taught our mainland visitors how do to the hula!
Dressed in shades of pink, red and white, our keiki and staff celebrated Valentine’s Day by doing just that! We had an extra treat at lunch as we were served red velvet cupcakes – – YUMMY!
Our third graders held their market day on Valentine’s Day as well. As part of their unit in class on how to be producers and consumers, the students had to come up with a product, method of advertising, pricing and selling their products. Students took turns being “consumers” as they purchased classmates’ products (producer’s) and then switched roles. There were many great items for sale that day.
And if that was not enough for a busy week, the PTO’s Ho’olauleʻa was held on Saturday. Our Nā Lei O Kaiona performed – with our newly formed first and second graders group performing for the first time! It was a great day for all and a special mahalo Ke Akua for holding up on the rain that day!
