The specials teachers (Mrs. Debus, Mrs. Rosehill, Miss Chang, Kumu Crabbe, Mrs. Stack, Mrs. Lee, Kumu Kanani and Kumu Iaea, along with Mrs. Rutherford) were fortunate to attend this year’s Hawai’i Association of Independent Schools Conference 2010 entitled Schools of the Future. It was a unique opportunity for us and helped to support our firm belief that creativity is of utmost importance to the education of our children.
Following the conference, we went to Mauna’ala to visit the tomb of our beloved princess, Pauahi. With the kōkua of Kumu Crabbe we presented a hoʻokupu of lei and pua in honor of our aliʻi.
On Friday, specials met with their counterparts from Maui and Kapālama campuses. It was a wonderful exchange of manaʻo and ways to strengthen our curriculum and focus. Following this visitation, we went to the Heritage Center at the Kamehameha Schools Chapel. Aunty Gussie Bento shared many insights about Pauahi and other aliʻi as well as feather lei making.
Here is a video of Sir Ken Robinson, our keynote speaker. Enjoy.
