4G: Which way is which?

Can you figure out which way is which by just looking at the sky? We’ll astronomers, navigators and many Hawaiians do. The sky is like a map used for find directions and position by using land marks and the movement of the objects in the sky. The 4th graders will be gazing up a lot this trimester as they themselves try to learn more about the sky, particularly constellations and the seasons. In today’s class we started with trying to figure out our barrings of where is north, south, east, and west on our campus. We even had students use the Hawaiian words for cardinal directions: `ākau, hema, hikina and komohana.
