Local Culture

As with all stereotypes they are partially true but do not paint the complete picture of who we are as a people. We’re going to be looking at how Hollywood creates an image for people around the world about what “local people” are like. Please come join the discussion and watch the collection of movies that we’ve put together. Sign up above to be part of the experience!!

Stereotypes Of Locals:

– Dark brown skin, dark hair, dark eyes

– Women in muumuu dresses with a hibiscus flower behind their ear, wearing leis

– Bigger than normal body frame for men and women

– Big men playing little Ukuleles

– Speaks Pidgin, English, and Hawaiian

– Large families

– Casual clothes, bare feet or flip flops; never tennis shoes

– Hula dancers, fire dancers, big luaus

– Welcoming and friendly, but sensitive to outsiders.
