“Ua lehulehu a manomano ka ‘ikena a ka Hawai’i” – Great and numerous is the knowledge of the Hawaiians. (We create, share and apply knowledge in purposeful and relevant ways). In our Papa Heluhelu (Reading Groups) reading strategies are introduced and reinforced to kōkua our keiki in strengthening their reading potential. Some reading activities include oral phonetic games, vocabulary building and spelling skills. Our keiki challenge their ability to become a better reader while working in small groups, with a partner, as well as individually. (Activities in this photo: Say, Write, and Draw, Chunking Words, Roll and Read, ABC Order).

Modifying how we do things
Papa ‘Ekahi is taking their learning to another level using the ipad as a digital playground for academic growth. They use notability to complete their assignment and submit digital worksheet for grading via student email. This is a modification of what was a paper and pencil task and now its been redesigned, transforming student work.
SAMR Model & Our Students
It’s almost second nature for our haumāna to utilize their ipad for learning, creating, and sharing. Technology integration allow for our students to think critically, apply and share their knowledge using various mediums. The SAMR Model is used as a reference guide for teaching and learning as we continue to provide digital learning experiences and opportunities for our students to thrive as 21st Century learners!

We are blessed to be learning more about volcanoes with friends from near and far! Our Papa ‘Ekahi is part of this learning/sharing Padlet that Mrs. Redona (KSK Librarian) has created to share what we know and would like to know about volcanoes. We will collaborate with our friends from KSK in sharing information to 2nd graders from Saint Louis. Global learning is where it’s at!
