Lexile Framework For Reading

A Lexile measure is a valuable piece of information about either an individual’s reading ability or the difficulty of a text, like a book or magazine article. The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an “L” after it — 880L is 880 Lexile.  A student gets his or her Lexile reader measure from a reading test or program.  A book, article or piece of text gets a Lexile text measure when it’s analyzed by MetaMetrics.  Take a look at this video to learn more about Lexile measures.

Character Ties

Our 5th graders worked together in a fun activity called Character Ties. Working in partnership, they carefully thought about their character(s) in the book Tasi’s Gift and created neckties with images and used words that are representative of their character.

Brigitta of the White Forest

Our Papa Mala’o classes had a very special visit by an author from Canada who writes children books.  Mrs. Danika Dinsmore (writer, teacher, & performer) took time from her very busy schedule to visit with us in the Learning Center.  With the release of her new book Brigitta of the White Forest Mrs. Dinsmore opened our minds to use our imagination as she read to us.  She took us on a wonderful & magical tour of the imaginary faerie forest.  Mahalo Nui e Mrs. Dinsmore for sharing the day with us.
