We start the week reviewing the concepts of Composition & Framing by presenting our Pinkiliscious storyboards with our partners. REMEMBER RULE OF THIRDS!!
We also talked about basic visual sequencing to tell a story. We start with an EWS to establish the setting, then a WS to show the character in the setting, then a MS, then possibly a MS OTS or MCU. And we keep getting in closer to a CU & ECU. Of course, rules can be broken and once youʻve proven that youʻve mastered this, you can break the rules and start with a CU instead!
Finally, we move to the video camera. Meet the Sony HD CX160 mini-cam. Itʻs a tiny camera but itʻs still has the main components of all cameras . . . a lens, body, & viewfinder (or pull out screen in this case). There is a touch screen with the controls for zoom & record which are also located on top of the camera itself.
We also introduce you to a tripod. We will be using the tripod 99% of the time for steady shots. We donʻt want to get sea sick watching your footage. General height of the camera on a tripod should be at the eye level of your subject.
Lastly, you all so learn to use a clapper or slate . . . SCENE 1, TAKE 1, and ACTION!!
Weʻll put all your skills to use and go on a video scavenger hunt to end our week! So happy video taping!
