The lama reflects caring for one another. The translation of Kapālama is “the enclosure made of lama.” Within this enclosure we learn to care for others and ourselves. Boundaries and guidelines help to keep us safe and on task in our learning environment. The Hawaiian value associated with the lama is mālama (to care for one another, preserve, and
protect). We envision a community of caring learners who receive and give guidance.
