Happy October!

Happy October! Fall break is upon us…relax, have fun, sleep in, play, build relationships with friends and family, and rejuvenate for the ending of the 1st trimester. We will see the keiki back here on Tuesday, October 13th.

Parents please join us on October 12th at 5pm for a ‘Ohana Night with Kandace Logan. Come learn about strategies that we are using to build social emotional skills in our classrooms. Kandace will also talk about the developmental stages of children to help you be aware of your child’s social, cognitive, and physical development. You can learn ways to help your child at each stage.

E kuahui like i ka hana. Let everyone share in the work together.

Door prizes will be given! Wear your E Ola Nō t-shirt and receive a small makana!

*This is an adult only event. No childcare offered.

We hope to see you all there!

Princess’s Ball Information

The culminating event for our Princess Pauahi research unit is our Princess’s Ball. This annual event will be held for Papa ‘Ekolu haumana on Thursday, October 22nd. Students will start off the day by taking a walking tour through the Panaewa Zoo to appreciate the outdoors, which our princess loved so dearly. A luncheon will follow at the Wainaku Executive Center, and students will show off their dancing skills by doing a waltz.

It is not necessary to purchase special attire for the ball, but students are asked to wear their Sunday best. For girls, we recommend a simple party dress with covered sandals or sandals with a back strap. Same school rules apply- no spaghetti, halter or strapless dresses, unless a coverup is used with it. Heels should be low and comfortable as students will be doing a reasonable amount of walking throughout the day. Boys should wear a nice collared shirt or aloha shirt with dress slacks (uniform pants are okay as well) and covered shoes.

Students should be fully dressed and ready for this event when they arrive to school. Mr. Kamisato will be taking pictures for us following morning oli. All interested parents may take their own pictures at this time, but please be aware that the bus will leave by 8:45 a.m. and we cannot afford to be delayed. Only parents that volunteered to chaperone or help with this event are permitted to be at the Wainaku Executive Center during our luncheon. We are scheduled to return after lunch.

Mahalo e Nā ʻOhana!

Last night Papa ʻEkolu had a fantastic turn out at our Open House for School Year 2015-2016! Mahalo palena ʻole to our fabulous ʻohana that came out to show their support of their keiki here at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi. We couldn’t do our job well without you.

Mahalo for sitting through our “Morning Meeting” and participating in our activities. Now you’ll understand what your keiki is talking about when they refer to this ritual of ours that we do each day. After just one meeting, we feel like we strengthened our pilina just a little bit more. We look forward to getting to know you all better throughout the year.

Until next time… E mālama pono!

Me ke aloha pumehana,
Ms. Manliguis & Miss Everett
