Subject:            Student and Teacher Laptop Platform Decision

Aloha, I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting the student and teacher laptop platform decision.  The process involved engaging the High School faculty and some students to gather their input and mana`o by attending the Dell and Apple sessions.  We thank you for your participation and feedback.  The project core team’s recommendation to Dr. Fortuna was based heavily on your responses.  Dr. Fortuna received the core team’s recommendation in December, 2011 and he has agreed with the core team to support the Apple Macintosh platform.  The Apple Macintosh models are as follows:

  • Apple MacBook Pro 13”            for Teachers
  • Apple MacBook Air 11”            for Students

We understand that some of you may not have been in favor of the Apple laptop; however, we ask that you support this decision.  The core will be providing assistance and training to those who are concerned with the transition of their Dell laptops to Apple Macintosh laptops.  We will be providing more details on this support process in the future.

If any of you have further concerns about this decision, please contact Phil Aganus or myself (latachin@ksbe.edu).

Finally, we would like to thank all the participants, vendors and core team members that made this process a fair, equitable and open process.

Mahalo,

Lance Tachino

Project Manager
