Hawaiʻi Campus High School 1 to 1 Student Laptop Project

Aloha e Hawaiʻi Campus high school teachers and administrators,

My name is Lance Tachino and I am the Project Manager for the KS Hawaiʻi Campus High School 1 to 1 Student Laptop project.  This is my first communication to teachers, administrators and staff regarding this project.  The information provided is designed to give you a brief overview of this project.  For two months, the 1 to 1 project team has been meeting to develop a comprehensive plan to determine how best to roll-out the student laptops in School Year 2012-2013.  The core project planning team consists of 12 individuals:

Project Manager:

Lance Tachino

Hawaii Campus High School Principal and Project Owner:

Phil Aganus

Core planning team members:

Peter Fuchs
Dory Shigematsu-Miyashita
Lokelani Kipilii
Lorelei “Pua” Kalaniopio
Danilo Padilla
Ellen Cordeiro
Darlene Wolff
Mario Patino

ITD/Core Planning team

Toby Holt
Clifford Kobashigawa

This a three year project, with the first year (SY 2011-2012) being a planning year, the second year (SY 2012-2013) the laptop implementation year and the final year (SY 2013-2014) as the assessment and operational turnover year.

I also want to clear up one misconception for teachers, which is that the project team has NOT made a decision on the laptop platform.  We are currently in the process of reviewing the different platforms and are planning to engage teachers in some hands on evaluation process.  The core planning project team will make a recommendation to Dr. Fortuna in November and hopefully we will get a final decision in December.

If you have comments, suggestions or questions, please email to me, ‘latachin@ksbe.edu’.  I will more than happy to respond to your inquiry.  You can also talk to any of the project team members as well.

Mahalo,

Lance Tachino
